As the rumored March 15 launch of the Galaxy S IV draws closer it appears that Samsung wants fans to dream big by teasing us with small but important bits of information. The latest bit of news coming from Samsung is the architecture of the Exynos 5 Octo-core SoC, which not only tells us specific information about the chip, but also hints at the possibility that the Galaxy S IV will be powered by the much-anticipated processor.

From the information released we learn that the Exynos Octo is a dual Quad-core chip based on the Coretx a-15 and a-9 architecture. Both processors are manufactured wioth a 28nm die, which means we can expect them to be very highly power efficient. One more area where the chips vary is in physical size and clock speed. The performance chip not only occupies more than twice the area of the weaker chip, but is also clocked at 1.8 GHz compared to the 1.2 GHz of the power efficient chip. The performance a-15 chip also has twice the L2 cache than the Exynos 4412 found in the Galaxy S III. More L2 cache likely means improved multitasking, which is always welcome in the Android universe.
