Tegra 4 Unleashed

Not too long ago the Exynos 5 found in the Nexus 10 claimed the title of most powerful SoC on the market, completely destroying the competition and even taking down Intel's Atom series with little problem. However, nVidia claims that it's new chipset is even faster than the Exynos 5.

The nVidia Tegra 4 has officially been announced, and to be honest, it's an absolute beast. The new SoC is based on Arm's Cortext A-15 Architecture, just like the Exynos 5. However, unlike the Exynos 5, the Tegra 4 will be packing four, that's right, four CPU cores which in theory should be able to double the performance of the Exynos 5.
If that doesn't impress you, then consider this: The Mali T604 found in the Exynos 5 has 4 cores for video graphics. The Tegra 4 on the other hand, has a whopping 72 GPU cores, which is absolutely insane. If performance scales correctly, the Tegra 4 should have absolutely no problem conquering the CPU and GPU hierarchy, putting practically all of Apple's iPads and iPhones to shame.
Furthermore, the processor will feature 28nm design, which along with a fifth low-power core, should greatly improve battery life.
One of the major drawbacks from the chip is that it packs no integrated LTE, which means that an additional LTE chip must be also installed, making the phone less battery friendly. Let's hope that the Tegra 4 is as efficient as it is powerful, for if it is we might be looking at the new undisputed King of CPU and GPU mobile power.
