As most of you might already be aware of, on March 15 Samsung released the much-anticipated Galaxy S IV at the unpacked event, thus revealing to us the true specifications for the super phone.
If you have been following rumors on the galaxy S IV for the past few months you might have noticed that rumors pointed at a 5 inch 1920x1080 screen with a pixel density of 441 ppi powered by a Samsung Exynos 5450 big.LITTLE "8-core" CPU paired with a PoverVR SGX544MP graphics processing unit. Also, the device had been rumored to have an upgraded 13 megapixel rear camera, increased screen to body ratio and 2 gigabytes of RAM memory.
As might be expected, all of this information turned out to be exactly true, minus a few details here and there, for example the Cortex a-15 quadcore big chip is clocked at 1.2 GHz rather than the expected 1.7 GHz, which is understandable considering such a highly clocked chip could demand more power than a battery might be able to provide for a sustained amount of time.
A few areas where Samsung surprised us has been in the inclusion of a humidity and thermal sensor that can be used with the SmartFit application that comes with the Galaxy S IV. As far as we are aware of, this is the first time that such sensors have been placed inside of a smartphone, which hopfully is a trend that other manufacturers can follow.
The actual body of the S IV is very similar to that of the S III, measuring only a couple of centimeters taller and wider yet managing to fit a noticeably larger screen, which looks absolutely gorgeous, I might add. Finally, Samsung engineers have also managed to make the phone 3 grams lighter and approximately 1 cm thinner than the Galaxy S III.
The S IV is said to be available for sale on April 26th of this year, at which point we should know exactly what the battery life will be like on the phone and how functional the software is.
