Apple looking into a solo career

Their break-up from Samsung could be easily explained by the millions of lawsuits from one to another, but as Apple says, that isn't the reason. Apple has been successful with their own chips in the iPhones, but will that happen if they take the plunge and start playing with bigger toys?
This idea might have gained its momentum from Microsoft's newest release, the Windows 8, which is greatly similar for both desktop and tablet devices, and Apple might be seeking a way to unify the OS X and iOS experience in a similar manner.
However, as Apple says, they're concerned about Intel's ability to provide processors with low power consumption and as well of their commitment. This isn't a final desicion as of now, but is a possibility.
