Introduction

The Lumia 800 holds quite a weight on its shoulders being the current flagship WP7 phone from Nokia. Although there are now other versions of Nokia's Windows Phone interpretations, the main attention is caught at the Lumia 800.

I will be comparing the Lumia 800 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, which is my daily driver at the moment.

First impressions

Body

The very first thing I noticed from the Lumia 800 was that it feels quite a lot more premium than the Samsung Galaxy S II. That might just be down to the weight of each phone which is 142 grams versus 116 grams respectively. So that's 26 grams more, and you can feel it. Still that doesn't make the phone feel too heavy.

Second thing I noticed was that the buttons on the right side of the phone have an amazing tactile feedback, compared to the S II's, much better. And in addition to the S II's button repertoire, we have the camera shutter key on the right side of the phone. This helps a lot if you at all wish to capture good photos.

The placement of the power button is similiar to the placement on the S II. Volume buttons are on the same side as the power button, just slightly above the power button. While using the protective case you get in the box, you can easily mistake the power button to the volume rocker.

Display

The display on the Lumia 800 is surprisingly sharp despite the matrix being PenTile. The smallest texts look a little fuzzy but nothing too bad. Colors are awesome and blacks are really deep thanks to the ClearBlack technology.

The glass is beautifully curved in the edges of the phone, and this helps in navigating the WP swipe menus.

User interface

The Windows Phone UI runs smoothly as expected. Flicking is responsive and the rubber like bounceback effect just finishes off the user experience. The similiar UI all around the phone makes using the phone really easy and everything is in the same place everywhere.

Everything you need and possibly want to know, is there for you to easily access.

Feels like the perfect package to me.
