Use your computer to upload to Instagram

Instagram has chosen not to allow image uploads from their desktop website because they want to keep the Instagram experience as mobile as possible.
There is a way to upload photos to Instagram directly from your desktop computer without the need for third party downloads or plugins for photo editing software.
This guide is for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Steps for Google Chrome
Open a new tab in Chrome and press F12. The inspect window opens which should look something like this, either next to the new tab window or in its own window.
In the top left corner there is an icon with an outline of a smartphone and a tablet. This allows you to view a website like it appears on a mobile device.
Click on the icon
and now you should see a view of a mobile device. If the inspect view is inside the browser window, you can detach it from the three dots menu by selecting the pictured option.
Now that you have more space to work with, use the list located at the top center to select a mobile device.
This will determine what browser user-agent the website sees, effectively fooling it into thinking that you're accessing it with a mobile device.
Steps for Mozilla Firefox
Open a new tab in Firefox and press F12. The inspect window opens which should look something like this (click on the image to see the image larger).
Find and click the Responsive Design Mode button in the top right of the inspect window, or use the Ctrl+Shift+M keyboard shortcut to open the mobile view.
When you have it selected you can close the inspect window.
To fool the Instagram website you need to find and paste a mobile device user-agent to the Custom User Agent field at the top of the page.
Below is the user agent for an Apple iPad Mini 4, which has the upload feature enabled on the mobile version of the website. You can go ahead and copy and paste it to the text field.
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 11_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/603.1.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) CriOS/61.0.3163.73 Mobile/15A402 Safari/602.1
All you have left to do now is navigate to Instagram's website and start uploading images! Obviously you may need to log in to your account first.
